Remember four things:
1) "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." JFK 1961,
2)... Govt of the people, by the people, for the people..." Lincoln 1863,
3) "What I hear I forget, what I see I remember, what I do I understand.” Confucius 451 BCE,
and 4) "Voting intelligently is the most important citizen responsibility- it is also the most important right (freedom) you have." Mr. Achs 2003.

Login for Parent Assistant: http://esis.davenport.k12.ia.us:8080/padcsd/
Dear Parents and Students:
West High School is in the process of implementing a software program that allows parents to view unofficial grades of their children starting October 29, 2007. The program is called Parent Assistant and allows parents to check on student progress at any hour of the day or night. Participation in the program is voluntary and any parent with a computer and Internet access can learn to use the program. It is our expectation that the program will promote higher levels of communication between the home and school. Please go to the main office, see Barb Flynn, complete the necessary paperwork and get your unique login and password to view your student’s unofficial grades.
In addition to grades, parents will be able view the following unofficial data about their child:
Ø Attendance
Ø Current Progress/Assignments
Ø Demographic Information
Ø Emergency Contacts
Ø Fees
Ø Student Schedule
For more information see the following:
Note: Grades are unofficial and will be real-time (I update grades at least once a week). Grades are also posted in the classroom for students to review. If you need additional help with Parent Assistant, please contact the main office or your student’s guidance counselor. The official gradebook will still be the normal manual copy I keep on my desk. Grades are also posted below.
Now, when your child says “all my homework is done” or “I’m doing great in that class” you can go online and check. Parent Assistant allows all of us — the teacher, the parent/guardian, and the student — to work together to ensure your child’s success in school.
Parents: Stay involved with your student’s education, ask about assignments and grades, and ask to see their work. Students: Set your goals and expectations high, you can do it, success is in your grasp. My goal is to help each student be successful. More importantly, high school is more than just academics; it’s about extra-curricula activities (sports, band, choir, clubs), relationships (friendships), and growing up (life experiences.) The key values for success are LDRSHIP: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Welcome again, remember I care, and GO FALCONS!
Special Note: What to do if the student needs help in my class: 1) See me for help (before/after school), 2) Ask Mr. Achs to assign a “Class Buddy” to help, 3) Request a guided study hall, 4) See your Academic Counselor (386-5500).
For SY07-08 Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled Wednesday 4-7pm as follows: 24Sep08, 3Dec08, 18Feb09, and 29Apr09. However, parents are welcomed to attend class and/or see me anytime.
Remember, my goal is to help your student be successful in my class!
