Fundamentals of Music
Course Description Music Theory I will help you understand how music is constructed, provide opportunities to develop your creativity, and offer insights on how to improve performance. In particular, you'll become familiar with the basic elements of music, the art of voice leading, and techniques of musical analysis. You'll also develop aural, vocal, and keyboard skills. A basic course for music majors and other interested individuals, Music Theory I is designed to help you acquire the knowledge and discipline necessary for success as a musician.

Text/Required Materials Essential Elements of Music Theory Books 1-3
Instructional Procedures and Support Methods: Individual work, lecture, projects.
Teaching Strategies: Modeling, teacher directed learning, compare/contrast, reflective practice
Students will attend and participate in daily classes. Homework: Students are expected to be responsible for all music worked on in class. To make progress students are expected to practice at home individually on skill improvement.
Expectations of students 1. Attend class 2. Be on time 3. Be prepared for class 4. Put all of your class materials away properly 5. Be ready and willing to work 6. Be responsible and accountable for your actions 7. Treat everyone the way you would want to be treated 8. Communicate with the directors of any problems that may occur 9. Listen to all Directions!!!!!! 10. No Food or Drink in the Music Rooms 11. Passes will be given only in emergencies. You must have your student handbook!
Assessment Music is a subjective art form. Students are graded on personal progress, personal participation within the group, and their consistency of meeting classroom and performance expectations.
Grading 25% ATTENDANCE Rehearsals, concerts, lessons (As required or contracted.)
25% STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITIES Completion of assigned tasks, Having all equipment at all times.
50% DEVELOPMENT/IMPROVEMENT Determined by quality of performance, knowledge of music, daily preparation of assignments and participation in class.
