New Information for Counselors |
|
Trish Hatch, a counselor guru, has introduced the elementary counselors
to what is happenin' in the counselor world. What is so cool
about this is that the same vocabulary, goals, etc. stated in the
curriculum that is occurring in reading and math are also occurring in
guidance programs. We are looking at data to drive the
instruction that counselors do with children just as the reading
teacher and math teacher do.
You will find the work on the links on this page when I figure it all
out. Our classroom lessons are based on the needs of the building
and the intentional guidance comes from the students who still struggle
and then are placed into groups. Each leads to the increased
achievement in students. For example, the elementary buildings
need to maintain an attendance percentage of 95.8 to meet NCLB
guidelines. The elementary counselors' goal is to meet that
percentage, therefore, we put into place classroom lessons which are
tested with pre-test and post-test scores on seven questions that we
felt were important for kids to know. If any student continued to
be absent for 20% or more of the time in the first quarter, they will
be placed in intentional guidance groups that will also be tested
with a pre-test and a post-test.
For more information on how this is occurring, please check out the
links on this page. As we get closer to completing our
information, we will have more updates on the use of data in counseling
programs.
